    While the prediction brings some hype and excitement to the program, the players say it’s not something they’re focusing on.

  • Clinch River Trout numbers...

    NORRIS—For sheer numbers of quality trout, the Norris Dam tailwater has met all expectations set by fisheries biologists with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
    Data collected during a six-year Norris Tailwater Management Strategy by the TWRA indicates that trout populations are doing exceptionally well in the protected length range (PLR) or “slot limit,” as it is more commonly known.

  • Big Clinch River Cleanup hoists...

    NORRIS—Despite thunderstorms that muddied the water and soaked, hardworking volunteers on Saturday, July 20, the first-ever Big Clinch River Cleanup was a big success, says Buzz Buffington of Anderson County, who organized the event.
    The Clinch River Chapter of Trout Unlimited sponsored the community-wide cleanup. The turnout of volunteers—far more than the chapter had dared to expect—included 78 people and 15 boats.

  • 'Tough as nails'

    MARYVILLE—On Tuesday night, Campbell County coaches explained what a great player is.

    Head coach Justin Price told his team during the huddle what a great player had: ‘great effort,’ ‘mental and physical toughness’ and ‘self-motivation.’

    Two of those, Campbell County has down, as Price said the team gives everything they have, while being ‘tough as nails.’

    However, self-motivation is something the team needs among the ranks.

  • Farris signs with Carson-Newman...

    JACKSBORO—On Wednesday evening, Bo Farris’ dream came true.

    The Campbell County catcher signed with Carson-Newman University under head coach Tom Griffin.

    “I started going there my freshman year,” Farris said. “They had a catching camp, and that’s when I met Coach Griffin for the first time. We’ve stayed in touch throughout high school, and he’s watched me. He came up here for a visit, and that’s when they offered me.”

  • It's a Miracle!: Humbled in...

    This past week and the last leg of my journey, I had the honor to be a coach and lead a skills clinic in Hodmezovasarhely, which literally means "Beaver Field Market Place."

    The club in Hodmezovasarhely has only been established for three years with an adult team, 11-12 year old team and 13-15 year old team.

    The story of how baseball started in this town is pretty neat. It sure is a God story.

  • Fifth permit for 2013 Elk Hunt...

    NASHVILLE—The fifth permit for participation in Tennessee’s fifth managed elk hunt will be awarded to the successful bidder in an eBay auction to be held July 18-28.

    Proceeds from the auction benefit the state’s elk restoration program.

    Bristol Motor Speedway

    Bristol Motor Speedway will be hosting Monster Truck Madness and Global Rally Cross as a doubleheader. Practice rounds can be seen for free with the purchase of tickets from noon until 7 p.m. on July 19. On July 20, gates will open at 2:30 p.m. Thompson Metal Monster Truck Madness and Global Rally Cross will be at the World’s Fastest Half-mile for the first time together, and tickets start at $25. Kids 10 and under are $5.

  • Douglas ditched

    JELLICO—After three years as head coach of the Lady Blue Devil basketball team, Nancy Douglas was released from the position on Monday morning.

    Following a slow season, in which Jellico finished with a 3-25 mark, Douglas was told she would not be coaching during the 2013-14 campaign.

    For Athletic Director Danny Oakes, it was a hard decision to make.
