  • Cougar 7U finishes third place

    Close games were all around for the Campbell County 7U team in the 2012 Gatlinburg Thanksgiving Classic.

    After falling by a combined 12 points in their two games during the Battle in Rocky Top, things only got closer in Gatlinburg.

    On Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, the Cougars fell 20-19 to the Glen Este Trojans of Ohio. Friday, they lost in a 0-0 overtime game, as the Amelia Barons gained more yardage during the overtime period.

  • Lake City Mavs 8U take fourth...

    The road wasn’t easy for the Lake City Mavericks during the 2012 Gatlinburg Thanksgiving Classic.

    After the tournament combined the 8U Central and National divisions, the competition became even greater for the Turkey Bowl.

    If a team was to lose in the first round of the 8U National division, it would fall into the Central division with hopes of winning a championship in that league.

    However, after a 13-6 victory on Thursday night, the Mavs were looking to face off with the big dogs.

  • McGuire makes a stand for...

    Jacob McGuire has become the go-to-guy for the Jacksboro Eagles.

    In five games, McGuire has scored a total of 65 points for the Eagles, as they have opened up a three-game winning streak.

    “He has to score for us to be what we can,” head coach Cody Parker said. “His outside shooting, I’d put him up against anybody around. He can shoot the ball. That’s his specialty. For him to put up those kinds of numbers, we need him to develop and keep that coming along.”

    LaFollette Middle School Basketball

    The LaFollette basketball teams will take on Robertsville tonight, Thursday Nov. 29 at home. The junior varsity boys are set to tipoff at 5 p.m., with the varsity squads to follow. The Owls also have a game on Monday, Nov. 3 as Oneida travels to LaFollette. Junior varsity girls will tipoff at 5 p.m., with the varsity squads following.

  • Making a statement

    Hardin Valley Academy hasn’t been a friendly place for the Campbell County Cougars Little League team.

    The same fate fell on the Campbell County 7U team this past weekend, as they fell 12-6 in both games.

    “We’re extremely proud,” Cougar head coach Brent Lester said. “The kids played hard. It was exciting for them, even though it didn’t go the way they wanted. They played hard.”

    Lester and the team had plenty to be proud of, though.

  • Turkey Bowl bound

    Rocky Top was a rough place to be this weekend, especially for the Lake City Mavericks 8U team.

    Playing in the Battle in Rocky Top, the Mavericks could only manage 6 total yards against a tough Central Kentucky team, as they fell 26-0 in the consolation game.

    On the first night of the tournament, Lake City fell 30-0 to the Decatur Central Hawks.

  • Late turnovers prove costly

    Devin Schmidt is a name no Cougar wants to hear for a while.

    The 6-foot-4 senior forward came to John R.W. Brown Gymnasium and stole a game that was sure to be Campbell County’s, as he scored seven of his game-high 28 points in the final minute.

    With 55 seconds remaining in the game, the Cougars held a 53-47 advantage.

    Schmidt used an offensive rebound for an old-fashioned three-point play with 45 seconds remaining to cut the lead to three, 53-50.

  • Lady Cougars looking for hard...

    The defending District 3-AAA champions aren’t starting their season out the way they wanted to.

    Following a 66-33 loss to Lenoir City last Tuesday, the Lady Cougars fell to the Sevier County Smoky Bearettes by a score of 52-36 on Friday evening.

    During the Sevier County game, Campbell County couldn’t get to the free throw line, as the Smoky Bearettes had a 31 to seven attempt difference.

  • Collumn: Tennessee facing tough...

    Athletic director, Dave Hart said it best.

    "I think this is a tough profession,” he said in Sunday’s press conference. “I think the passion of our fans is one of our greatest assets and sometimes that can be displayed in a variety of ways. We are blessed with a passionate fan base.”

    However, that passionate fan base puts Tennessee in a precarious position at the moment.

  • Campbell County football players...

         Eight Campbell County players were named to the 2012 All-District list for their efforts in the 2012 football season.
    Brandon Long, Bo Farris, Trey Torres, Nick Bailey, Andrew Evans, Jordan Kindred and Corey Phillips were all honored by District 3-AAA.
         Sophomore Ethan Jeffers, however, took top honors as he was named Newcomer of the Year. Jeffers broke nearly every passing record at Campbell County High School in his first season.
