  • Cougars drop two in District 3...

    Last week was a tough one for the Campbell County High School varsity boys’ basketball team.

    The Cougars (4-3 district, 11-5 overall), who had won six consecutive games, suffered back-to-back home losses to District 3-AAA rivals Karns and Knox Halls.

    Campbell County led in the second quarter of both games, but the Cougars let their opponents’ come back to take victories.

    The Cougars held a 23-20 advantage Friday night at halftime before Knox Halls made a second half comeback to win 52-47. 

  • Lady Owls, Jacksboro boys get...

    Tuesday night’s middle school varsity basketball games between LaFollette and Jacksboro featured a reversal of fortune for teams that were victorious in a previous matchup this season.

    Host LaFollette won the girls’ game, 32-17, to avenge a seven-point loss at Jacksboro in November.

    Julia Powell led the Lady Owls with 12 points in the rematch, followed by Ashley Whited with eight, Kasi Phillips six, and Kassie Kibler and Bailey Rutherford two each.

  • Youth Baseball coaches will meet...

    Anyone interested in coaching youth baseball or softball in LaFollette, Jacksboro, Caryville or Jellico is invited to a coaches meeting on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. at the Campbell County High School Baseball field house.

  • Little League football banquet...

    A football banquet for Cougar Little League football players, coaches and cheerleaders will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 at Valley View Elementary School.

    Football players need to return all equipment and uniforms. Players will be able to purchase their jersey for $10 cash. Following dinner, trophies will be awarded.

  • Wynn to host 3-on-3 tourney

    A men’s 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Wynn School. Games will begin at 9 a.m.

  • Jayvee wins in waning seconds...

    The Campbell County High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team faced off against district rival Knox Halls Friday night at John R.W. Brown Gymnasium. 

    Out of school all day because of snow, the Cougars got off to a sluggish start, shooting just 25 percent from the field and falling behind 12-9 after the first quarter. 

    In the second quarter, the Red Devils outscored the Cougars 20-18 to push their lead to 32-27 at the half. 

  • Cougars go inside, outside to...

    Word seems to have gotten around about the recent success of Campbell County High School’s varsity boys’ basketball team.

    Fans packed out John R.W. Brown Gymnasium Friday night to see if the Cougars could defeat District 3-AAA rival Anderson County and extend their winning streak to six games.

    The Cougars didn’t disappoint.

  • Fourth quarter treys by Morris...

    Campbell County High School’s varsity girls continue to hold the top spot in the District 3-AAA standings after their 55-47 home win Friday night over rival Anderson County.

    The Lady Cougars (6-0 district, 12-4 overall) got a big lift from senior point guard Courtney Morris, who scored 11 of her game high 17 points in the fourth quarter.

    Morris hit a trio of timely 3-pointers during the final eight minutes, one to tie the game and two for the lead. She finished the game with four treys.

  • Blue Devils top Sunbright in...

    A good weekend of practice helped get the Jellico High School varsity boys’ basketball team back on track Monday night.

    Playing a District 4-A game at Sunbright, the Blue Devils built a 23-point lead before settling for a 58-46 victory.

    Jellico (4-3 district, 9-10 overall) was coming off a 50-44 overtime loss Friday night at league foe Oneida.

    “We had a good weekend of practice, and played a lot better,” Blue Devils’ coach Mike Reynolds said of his team’s win at Sunbright.
