Campbell County High School’s varsity baseball team improved to 2-1 in summer league play with a doubleheader sweep Friday night of visiting Clinton.

The Cougars won the first game, 9-7, on Billy Tindle’s 3-run, walk-off single.

Lefthander Justin Willoughby went the distance to earn the victory. He threw 119 total pitches and struck out 10 batters in five innings.

Following a stressful three-day tryout, Nancy Ann Coker was recently chosen to the University of Georgia ‘Red Hots’ Dance Team for the 2009-10 season.

She is the daughter of Joe and Kemper Coker of LaFollette and is a 2008 graduate of the J. Frank White Academy of Lincoln Memorial University.

She is a former Magic All-Stars dancer who competed in both jazz and hip-hop with Twist N’ Shout.  

If you were a Campbell County High School track and field athlete competing in Thursday’s Section 1-AAA championships at Oak Ridge, odds were almost 50/50 that you would advance to the state Class AAA meet next week at Murfreesboro.

Nearly half of the CCHS athletes who went to sectionals also qualified for state as one of the top four performers in their respective events.

As has been the case all season long, it was the Young brothers, both seniors, leading the charge for the Cougars.

The annual Campbell County Football Fundraiser Golf Tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27 at The Greens at Deerfield.

The proceeds of this tournament will go to the CCHS Football Program.

There will be no lunch served. This is strictly a fundraising event.

Entry fee is $75 per player or $300 per team. Range balls are included. Appropriate attire is expected, soft spikes only. The format will be a four-person swat, best ball.

Registration will be at 12:30 p.m. on May 27. Starting time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
