Kristin Chapman broke a 34-year-old Campbell County High School track and field record Monday while competing in the Section 1-AAA Pentathlon at Johnson City.
Chapman’s long jump of 16-11.25 eclipsed the old mark of 16-8 set by Tammy Owens in 1977. Ironically, it was the only long jump this season for the Lady Cougars’ star junior.
“She hadn’t even practiced,” said Chapman’s jump coach, Billie Ann Evans.
“We’ve already got six points toward the state meet.”
