Emily Byrge only had three points in Tuesday night’s game, but there were none bigger.

During an earlier game in the season, the Campbell County Lady Cougars lost their momentum against Powell in the second half.

Campbell County gave up 19 turnovers, while only scoring 17 points in the second half.

However, a key trey by Byrge, followed by an assist for a Kendra King long ball gave the Lady Cougars the momentum they needed for a 40-34 victory Tuesday night.

The Panthers shot 60 percent from the floor, while depositing 50 percent of their three-point attempts on Tuesday night to go away with the District 3-AAA victory.

Campbell County could only manage 20 percent from behind the arc, as Powell won, 66-45.

“We just kind of ran into a buzz saw, head on,” Campbell County head coach Matt Housley said. “The Payne kid, a tough kid. The first one he hit in the game, 2 or 3 feet behind the line with a hand in his face, those are just good shots.”

Not every student is an athlete.

With this in mind, Campbell County High School is attempting to create new ways of giving every student a chance at sports with the recent addition of the bass fishing team.

Under the direction of Will VanEtten, a teacher at Campbell County, the team will fish in its first tournament on Jan. 12.
