    Jacksboro Middle School Basketball

    The Jacksboro basketball teams will take on Lake City at JMS tonight, Thursday Nov. 15. The junior varsity girls will tipoff at 5 p.m., as the varsity teams will follow. On Monday, Nov. 19, the Eagles and Lady Eagles will travel to Maynardville to take on Horace Maynard, as the junior varsity boys will tipoff at 5 p.m. Both junior varsity squads will travel to LaFollette on Nov. 20 to take on the Owls.

  • Jacksboro takes AAA runner-up

    While Oneida Middle School achieved its drive for five, it didn’t mean they had an easy road.

    The Indians took their fifth AAA middle school championship title in as many tries on Saturday night. However, Jacksboro found a way to battle, giving what Oneida head coach Heath Sexton called their toughest challenge.

    “That was an all-out war. I mean that,” Sexton said to Jacksboro in their postgame huddle. “That was by far the toughest game we’ve played in my 11 years here.”

  • Powell pushed Lady Owls past...

    The Lady Owls had a strong showing on Tuesday night in the Horace Maynard tipoff tournament.

    Playing a tough defending district champions in the Lady Red Devils, the Lady Owls used a 9-2 surge at the beginning of the third for a 22-13 advantage. LaFollette eventually went on to take the win, 33-28.

    As the Blue Devils turn their attention to the hardwood, they have many goals in mind.

    However, their first priority is a District 4-A regular season title. In order for that to happen, head coach Mike Reynolds says his team needs to be flawless at home against their district opponents.

  • Cougar Craziness has crazy...

    Gunner St. John and Nikki Ward wanted to make sure Cougar Craziness was definitely crazy.

    Following the alumni game on Friday, both the men and women’s squads participated in the three point contests where Ward edged Jamie Mynatt 11-10 in the one-minute shootout. St. John beat Seth Pebley, 14-10.

    However, in the St. John versus Ward contest, everything changed.

  • Lady Eagles look to talent, heart

    The Lady Eagles come into their 2012-13 season with big goals in mind.

    However, to head coach Wanda Snodgrass, this team has all the right components to make something special.

    “I expect this team to be one of the teams that goes farthest of the teams that I’ve had,” she said. “We have the talent to do it, as well as the heart, which plays an important part in this team.”

    For Snodgrass and the Lady Eagles, this season will be a chance for improvement over last year.

    High School Soccer Interest Meeting

    Campbell County High School is in hopes of having a soccer team next season. An interest meeting for students grade seventh through 11th will be held on Nov. 19 at the old West LaFollette Elementary School. This is just the first step, which is to show the county enough kids are interested in trying out for the team. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. For more information, call Bryan Horton at 494-6569.

    It was definitely one of the closest games between LaFollette and Jacksboro since the Egg Bowl began in 2012.

    However, this one had more riding on it than just bragging rights for the next year. As Jacksboro defeated the Owls, 6-0, they moved on to middle school championship game.

    Campbell County basketball is trying a new approach at firing the players up this season.

    Set for tomorrow, Friday Nov. 2, is Cougar Craziness inside John R.W. Brown Gymnasium.

    For the Cougars and Lady Cougars, it’s time to get pumped up in front of their hometown crowd, as the season is set to tipoff on Nov. 13.
