Campbell County High School junior Lauren Evans won a cross-country race Thursday afternoon at Victor Ashe Park in northwest Knoxville.
Evans finished the 3.1-mile course in 21 minutes, 24 seconds.
Teammate Camille Reynolds (26:29) placed 40th overall in a field of 170 girls. The Lady Cougars finished eighth out of 17 teams.
Other Campbell County finishers included Micheala Thomas, 50th; Maria Green, 63rd; Christina Goodman, 69th; Lucy Branam, 89th; and Christen VanEtten, 90th.
In the boy’s race, Jellico’s top two runners — Ethan Shelley and Jasper Budd — finished ahead of anyone that Campbell County had. Shelley, a junior who usually plays second fiddle to Budd, beat his teammate by 15 seconds (19:07) to finish 14th overall. Budd placed 19th, which was one second and one place ahead of Campbell County junior Dayne Deavours (19:23).
Other finishers for the Cougars included James England, 39th; Chase Lindsay, 49th; Nate Kennedy, 50th; Lucas Nelson, 51st; Aaron Brown, 55th; Caleb Ayers, 82nd; Austin McMahan, 129th; Ben Vinsant, 146th; Eli Caudill, 194th; Kelly McKamey, 202nd; Tyler King, 203rd; and Nathan Bolton, 223rd.
