CCHS golf teams play well against district competition

Campbell County High School golfers placed among the leaders last week during matches at LaFollette and Beaver Brook.
The Cougars lost by five strokes, 148-153, to two-time defending Class AAA state champion Farragut on Thursday at the LaFollette Country Club. The Hardin Valley Academy finished a distant third with a team score of 178.
Corey Bray and Trevor Huckaby each shot 37 for the Cougars, followed by Logan Baird and Bryce Roach each with a 39.
Stuart Thomas shot a 1-under par 35 to lead Farragut.
The Lady Cougars also finished second in their match. Farragut took first place with a team score of 79, followed by Campbell County, 90; and Hardin Valley, 94.
Lindsay Taylor and Lauren Heatherly shot 41 and 49, respectively, to carry the Lady Cougars.
Two days earlier, Campbell County’s teams participated in the District Shootout at Beaver Brook Country Club in Knoxville.The Cougars finished one stroke behind Knoxville Central for third place. Knox Halls won the match by 11 strokes.
Bray paced Campbell County with a 38, followed by Roach, 38; Baird and Huckaby, 40 each.
The Lady Cougars placed sixth in a field of nine teams. Heatherly shot 49, followed by Taylor, 53.
Powell won the match.
“The kids have worked so hard for me this year,” said Campbell County coach Jeremy Cox.
“They have learned and improved so much. Hopefully, we’ll be able to show what we can do when tournament time rolls around.”
The District 3-AAA Tournament is scheduled for Sept. 27 at Oak Ridge.
