On Saturday, Nov. 27, Foot Locker hosted the South Regional Cross-Country Championships at Charlotte. Male and female runners from 9 different states participated in 3 different races: high school freshman/sophomore; high school junior/senior; and high school seeded (fast heat). Campbell County was represented by Dayne Deavours and Lauren Evans, both of which run for the Knoxville Track Club.
Evans ran in the High School Junior/Senior Girl’s Race with 196 participants and finished 31st. In the standings, seniors and juniors were separated. Among 102 junior runners Evans placed 23rd. Her time was a personal best of 19:48, breaking the 20:00 minute mark, which was her goal for this cross-country season. Among the 13 senior/junior female runners from Tennessee, Evans’s time was the fastest.
Deavours ran in the High School Junior/Senior Boy’s Race. There were 242 participants just among juniors, and Deavours finished 152nd with a time of 18:08.
