The Jellico High School volleyball team is off to a 4-5 start this season.
The Lady Blue Devils, who made their first-ever substate appearance in 2009, were unbeaten (2-0) in district play as of last week. Jellico owns victories over rival Campbell County, Wartburg, Coalfield, the Knoxville Ambassadors and Knoxville Christian.
Last year, the Lady Blue Devils won a school-record 16 matches before falling to North Greene in the substate. Ashley Gulley was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers’ Association Class A All-State Volleyball Team, which was also a first for a Jellico player. Gulley is back for her senior season, as the Lady Blue Devils hope to make a strong postseason run.
