LaFollette Elementary girls hold off upset-minded Lady Bobcats

Having gone through the basketball season relatively untested, the LaFollette Elementary School girls had to withstand a serious challenge Thursday night from visiting Valley View.
The unbeaten Lady Owls escaped with a 28-25 win over a determined bunch of Lady Bobcats. Valley View had a 1-point lead twice during the fourth quarter but couldn’t pull off the upset. Julia Powell led the Lady Owls with 11 points, followed by Skylar Boshears with 7, Jayla Nelson 6, Carmen Harris and Madison Whited 2 each. Brittany Cupp carried Valley View with 12 points, followed by C. Baldwin with 5, Vada Miller and Madison Brady 4 each. The Owls won the boy’s contest, 33-21, with S. Marcum and Brycen Letner leading the charge with 12 and 11 points, respectively. S. Smith and J. Nelson had 4 each. Valley View’s scorers were Ben Arnold with 10 points, Zach Rutherford with 6, Cole Brady and Noah Jackson 2 each, and Cody Wilburn 1. LaFollette led 18-13 at halftime.
