LMS basketball teams topple Elks

LaFollette Middle School’s basketball teams opened the 2010-11 season last week with a pair of junior varsity victories over county rival Elk Valley.
Ashley Whited led the Lady Owls to a 28-11 win with points and 12 rebounds. Kassie Kibler chipped in five points for LaFollette, followed by Rachel Heatherly, Kasi Phillips and Isabella Luna with four points each; and Amber Finkenbine two.
Megan Muggridge did not score for the Lady Owls but did make a team-high eight steals.
Amber Moore paced Elk Valley with four points, followed by Shelby Yancey with three, Carla Beams and Jamie Ford two each.
In boy’s action, the Owls won 40-30 behind 12 points from Jared Ruan, 11 from Caleb Ivey, five each from Logan Stanfield and Elijah Powell, three from Dallas Griffith and two each from Landon Reese and Jordan Hembree.
Caney Minton led the Elks with eight points, followed by Tyler Lay with seven, Nick Taylor six, Dillon Marlow five, Jake Campbell and Nate Norman two each.
