LMS sweeps HMMS, Grace in basketball

LaFollette Middle School’s basketball teams swept Horace Maynard and Grace Christian last week.
The Lady Owls defeated Grace, 31-23, on Nov. 2.
Amber Guy led all scorers with 12 points and 8 rebounds for LaFollette. Sissy Bailey chipped in 8 points, while Kendra King had 6 and Faith Evans had 5.
Katherine Griffith led Grace with 7 points.
A couple of nights later, the Lady Owls notched a 25-17 victory over Horace Maynard. Bailey reached double figures with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while King, Evans and Katie Hamblin had 5 points each.
Briley Buckner led HMMS with 6 points.
LaFollette’s boys squeaked by Grace, 33-31. Austin North put up 12 points for the Owls, followed by Roston Letner with 7, Dallas Griffith 6, J. Ruan and D. Jackson 3 each; and Dakota Dossett 2.
The Owls had less trouble with HMMS and won that game by a final score of 47-29. North scored 13 of his game-high 16 points in the second half.
Letner chipped in 15 points, Griffith 9, Ethan Jeffers 3, Ruan and Andrew Evans 2 each.
In other games last week, the junior varsity Lady Owls defeated county rival Elk Valley, 34-24, on Saturday. Ashley Whited led LaFollette with 8 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Megan Muggridge with 7 points, Kassie Kibler 6, Kasi Phillips and Savannah Goins 4 each, Isabella Luna 3 and Rachel Heatherly 2.
Amber Moore carried Elk Valley with 10 points, followed by Carla Beams with 7, Megan Minton 4, Shelby Yancey 2 and Sheyanne Taylor 1.
On Monday of this week, the junior varsity Lady Owls defeated another county rival, Wynn, by a final score of 18-14. Phillips led the scoring with 7 points, all in the second half. Muggridge added 6 points, followed by Whited with 4 and Luna 1.
Heather Hill scored 6 points for Wynn, while Sidney Coffee and Brooke Thomas had 4 each.
