Local 4th of July events scheduled for weekend

LaFollette, Jellico, Lake City cancel Independence Day celebrations

Fourth of July events are scheduled into the weekend.

Jellico will hold an icecream- and hotdog-eating contest. There will be a Miss Fireworks pageant Saturday at 10 a.m. The fireworks display originally scheduled for July 4 was postponed until Saturday night.

Deerfield's Firecracker 5K run will begin 8:30 a.m. Friday. The run begins and finishes at Deerfield Rental. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Cost is $25. T-shirts will also be for sale $15. Proceeds benefit Campbell County Schools' College Scholarship Program. Find registration forms at Springs Dock or register the day of the race.

LaFollette's fireworks display, which was originally slated for July 3, was cancelled. City leaders have spoken about rescheduling it. While no official date has been set, Mayor Mike Stanfield hopes to set the time within the next couple weeks.

Lake City has rescheduled its fireworks celebration, which was set for the ball field in downtown.

The festivities will now begin 2 p.m. July 13, with fireworks to blast at 10 p.m.
