An invitation has been extended to the public for the Jellico swearing in ceremony.

The newly elected officials will fulfill the roles of office immediately following the ceremony at the monthly meeting. The swearing in ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. tonight, Nov. 18. A brief reception will be held before the board meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Mayor-elect Les Stiers plans on making some appointments during the meeting, but others will be made at a later date.

Police chief Chris Anderson and fire chief Gary Troxell will be retained in their current positions, according to Stiers.

“The key positions won’t change,” said Stiers.

A meeting was held last week for the newly elected officials. They received city documents such as the charter, budget and lists of various grants.

Stiers said the meeting was very productive and the board was provided an abundance of information.

The elected aldermen and mayor were also provided with job descriptions of the different departments.

“We are proud of the new council and we are looking forward to working together,” said Jellico City Recorder Linda Douglas.

The meeting will be a review of current business. Other than the appointments of department heads business will be limited.
