Kenny “Bucket” Daugherty, who played a little high school football back in the day for the Campbell County Cougars, had the best overall record on the LaFollette Press Pigskin Panel when the Wilder’s Winners contest ended last weekend.
Daugherty boasted a 73-37 won/loss record during the 10-week long contest and picked against the rest of the panel on more than one occasion.
Coach Johnny Bruce had the next best record on the panel with a 66-44 overall worksheet.
Grant Daugherty, a Jacksboro Middle School student, finished third with a 65-45 record.
Dwayne Kitts, a.k.a. The Mail Man, was fourth with a 64-46 mark.
Dwane Wilder and Shawn McCreary, both of the LaFollette Press, tied for fifth place with identical 63-47 records.
David Graham of cougarsrock.net and Channel 12 Sports Report fame was seventh at 62-48.
The final three panelists were WTNQ sports announcer Josh Parker (61-49); Jim Freeman, a.k.a. Old Sports Guy (60-50); and LaFollette Parks and Recreation Director Johnny Byrge (59-51).
It should be pointed out that everyone on the panel finished with a winning record.
The real winners, however, were the faithful readers of the LaFollette Press that filled out their entry blanks each week in hopes of winning a $25 prize.
David Ellison of LaFollette closed out the contest with a perfect 10-0 record during Week 10. He won a tiebreaker to receive a $25 Visa gift card.
The staff of the LaFollette Press would like to thank all of the advertisers, panelists and readers who participated in the inaugural season of Wilder’s Winners.
The Press plans to make this an annual feature of the sports section during the fall high school and college football season.
