Several locals score high in Morristown Marine tourney

Derek Turner and Joe Goins led several local teams with high-placing stringers of bass last Saturday during the Morristown Marine Team Tournament Trail’s stop on Norris Lake.

A total of 226 boats were entered in the Norris tournament, and 117 teams weighed in a grand total of 1,095.06 pounds of bass.

Turner and Goins finished seventh overall with 15.27 pounds. Travis Wormsley and John Carroll weren’t far behind at 15.08 pounds for ninth place, followed by Keith McDeerman and Von Dilbeck with 15.04 pounds for 10th place.

Other top local teams included Jack Faulkner and Ronnie Carey (15th), Tony and Aaron Sanders (16th), Greg Vinsant and Lanny Nance (18th), Benny Roberts and Todd Nidiffer (19th), Brian Jordan and Mike A. Smith (21st), Mike and Austin Smith (26th) and Jordan Card and Bobby Drinnon (38th).

Winners of the tournament were Joey Soloman and Daniel Taylor, of Elizabethton, with 19.35 lbs for the top prize of $10,000.

Virginians Neil Hunwick and Don Southern were runners-up with 19.28 pounds.

Jeff Lewis and Freddy Adkins caught the biggest largemouth (7.59 pounds), while Scott and Vance Berrier caught the biggest smallmouth (4.18 pounds).
