Campbell County High School hosted its CTE career fair on Tuesday morning.
“With the support of the community coming out like this we are able to offer students an opportunity to engage with people that are really out there doing the careers,” Campbell County Gear Up Coordinator Monica Bane said. “Working in the field and reading about it are two very different things. This gives them job opportunities. They also discuss educational opportunities. Once they leave high school they at least have some idea of what might be out there for them, giving them jobs and careers that they can pursue.”
Bane thanked the community in for coming out in full force to be vendors for the students in the fair.
“Well, we have a huge variety,” Bane said. “Estimated today, we probably have about 55 vendors here. We have community college. We have several military. We have cosmetology represented. We have all the services and skills related to medical and healthcare. I have finance and we have banking. We have local utilities companies. We have several of the local unions for example like heat and air and electric, through those unions. We have sheriffs department, chamber of commerce, real estate. I have already mentioned healthcare. We have banking and construction. Pyro shows, I would call them entertainment, even though that’s very hard work it’s great entertainment. We have insurance agencies, law enforcement. The military also, through the aviation branch, brought the helicopter here. I would love to give a great shoutout to Shane Prater with the veterans association. He worked tirelessly to bring the Blackhawk helicopter.”
Campbell County Mayor Jack Lynch and his office were also on hand for the event to speak to students.
“It is exactly what I told the general over there earlier,” Lynch said. “He’s set here with the Air Force Academy. We’ve never had a student go to the Air Force Academy. I’ve had students go to the Navy Academy, but to the Air Force. He’s here to push the Air Force Academy. The congressman’s liaison is right there with him and next door to him is senator Fleischmann’s aide. I told him, you have to let the kids know this is available. Without them knowing this is available it’s worth nothing. Once they know it’s available you have to prove to them that it’s attainable. You take in the kids who make the high scores and that’s what these are about, the very high scores, in that one. They can get into the Air Force Academy and they are set for life. That’s just one example, there are many others here. We have people here this year who have never been here before. This is the largest one that’s ever been at Campbell County High School. From the time I was teaching here and we had it in the hallway to till the last two years to today, this is the largest ever.”
