     The Campbell County Historical Society will meet March 15 at 7 p.m. at the Historic Wedding Chapel. Guest speaker, Maggie Inscho, will be discussing the Children’s Center of Campbell County.

    The LaFollette Medical Center will be hosting the Campbell County Chamber of Commerce Networking Coffee on March 15, at 8:30 a.m., at the outpatient rehabilitation center, 2146 Jacksboro Pike, Suite A, LaFollette (in the Castleton’s Building). All chamber members and prospective members are invited to attend.

  • Area business owner pitches idea of local summer concert

     Caryville may play host to a concert this summer. 

    At the board of mayor and aldermen meeting on March 12, Ride Royal Blue owner Sheila Westray sought permission to host a concert at the Ershall Collins Industrial Park at the 141 exit off Interstate 75. 

  • First Volunteer to host 5K to benefit Relay for Life

     First Volunteer Bank is hosting a five-kilometer race on April 21. The proceeds from the race will benefit Relay for Life, an event that raises money to fight cancer.

    “This is our fundraiser for Relay for Life,” said Cindi Reynolds, financial services representative for First Volunteer Bank and race coordinator.

  • Indictments for the week of March 22,2012

    The following indictments were returned by the Campbell County Grand Jury on Friday:

    •Kevin Holman- theft $1,000 - $10,000.

    •Tiffany McGill- theft $1,000 - $10,000, vandalism, felony evading arrest, reckless endangerment, seatbelt violation, registration violation, open container, drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest.

    •Daniel Hale- aggravated assault, domestic assault.

    •Michael J. Boshears- DUI, DUI over .08.

  • Business owner discusses bringing a Holiday Inn Express to Caryville

     Caryville’s town leaders excitedly listened to Jay Patel as he told them his plans to put a Holiday Inn Express at the old Christmas Tree Inn.

    “This is something we’ve been hoping for for a long time,” Mayor Robert Stooksbury said. “For someone to take that old building and make it into something nice.”

    “I’m really glad it’s coming,” Alderman Glenn Smith said. “I hope (it) grows and we grow with it.”

  • Man charged for possession

     Last Thursday, a Georgia man was charged for possession of schedule II after Jellico police stopped him on Interstate-75.

  • Man allegedly steals air conditioning unit

     The Campbell County Sherriff’s Department was called to a local residence after a Jacksboro man allegedly stole an air conditioning unit.

  • Cougars win baseball opener, 6-3

    Campbell County High School’s varsity baseball team made a successful 2012 debut Monday afternoon with a 6-3 victory over the Williamsburg (Ky.) Yellowjackets.

    Senior Andy Hickman went the distance to earn the decision. He struck out seven batters along the way, walked two and gave up a pair of earned runs. Well over half of Hickman’s pitches were strikes.

    “Andy threw the ball well,” Cougars’ coach Brad Collette said.
