Yielding to the Spirit Brings Lasting Change

Many people, after putting their faith in Jesus Christ to save them, become frustrated because they continue to stumble and sin. Or they believe that they could be more effective if they could change certain behaviors, but the changers never seem to last. How can a Christian really change and become more like Christ? Let us look at some very essential points from scripture that can help us experience lasting change.

  • Pet population is growing at shelter

The animal shelter provides a much needed service to Campbell County residents. It serves all of the city municipalities as well as the outlying county areas where they patrol for strays and also respond to requests to resolve pet issues.

In many cases, lost dogs and cats end up at the shelter enabling them to be returned to the owner.

The September 2010 report shows that five animals were returned to their owner.

    Back from the dead

“. . . be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness . . .” (See Ephesians 4:17-32).

Fall will be upon us by the time you read this.  The Autumnal Equinox is, I note, listed differently on the 2010 calendars I have hanging in the library.  The Tennessee Wildlife calendar lists the 23rd as the first day of fall while some other almanac type calendars list it as beginning on the 22nd.  I looked on the Internet and also found this discrepancy among various sources.  I’ll stick with my most trusted source, The Old Farmer’s Almanac, which proclaims that fall begins at 11:09 p.m. EST.

Satan has always had a plan

I want to mention again today, as I did last week, that John Hagee asked his church and anyone who would to participate in 40 days of prayer for our nation, Sept. 20 until Oct. 30.

We need divine intervention in our nation!

What we are seeing today did not happen overnight. There has always been sin and deception in the hearts of men, Satan had a plan.

    The Christian’s duty

We have a new bird dog at the homestead.  The English Setter is named
Alice.  She’s four months old now and absolutely full of life.  She has an
extraordinarily sweet disposition and has about the softest fur I’ve ever
stroked.  Alice seemed a little dense in the brain department to start out.  I
feel she’s making some progress in the last couple of weeks however.

  • Commission's spending leaves coffers empty

Robbing Peter to pay Paul is a time honored budgeting method. But what happens when Peter has already been held up? That is the circumstance the new crop of county commissioners is facing after their   spent nearly all of the discretionary money set aside for the commission in the 2010-11 fiscal year.

On the front page of today’s Press is a story detailing the last minute spending habits of the outgoing county commissioners.
